RAE’S READS

Take what you are reading now (or one of the books you are reading now, if you’re like me), and put your finger randomly on any page you have read (or where you’re starting to pick up reading).  Copy two sentences as a teaser and give the title and author.  I’ll bet you’ll find some books for your TBR (To be Read) list in the comments. Here’s my teaser from James Lee Burke’s Wayfaring Stranger, the first book in his Holland family trilogy and some of the best writing I’ve enjoyed lately:

“My father.  He wants to get out his twenty-gauge and make a squirrel -and- robin stew and shell pecans and make a pie. It’s funny how old people retreat into the past, like it can bring back their youth. I think this might be his last Christmas.”

That’s a lively and wrenching extract… As I grow older I realise ever more keenly just how our perspective changes as we move through our lives. This sounds like an enjoyable read, Rae and I look forward to hearing how you get on with it. Thank you for dropping in earlier:).

    What a wonderful line!
Here’s mine, from Four Arthurian Romances by Chretien de Troyes, specifically Erec et Enide, “Hands off my bridle, vassal! I consider you proud and impudent!” The line is spoken by Erec, who is high among Arthur’s knights. These romances are from the tales of King Arthur, but they are re-written to suit France in another century. I am no expert in the field.

I will have to “throw you a line” from an adventure book set in Ireland 4,000 years ago.
Bet no one else has a similar teaser to yours! Ha!
